Recently there was an article in the New York Times about the possibility of mandating health insurance. This wasn’t a mandate for Montana Health Insurance, but rather an idea to make health insurance manditory for all Americans.

This doesn’t come without some add on’s though.

For one Obama stated that for those who still couldn’t afford coverage there would be some type of governmental health plan so that they could have some form of coverage.

Some (mostly Republicans) say that doing this (governmental health insurance) is just another step toward nationalization of health insurance and are afraid we will become like Canada and wait in line. Not sure how that would be Montana, but could be long waiting lines to see the doctor in some places.

Another idea is that it will make all of the companies very competitive and drive down the premiums which would be great for Montana health insurance because everyone currently pays for maternity in the premium even if you are a single male.

How soon will this take place? Not really sure but we may see some changes in 2010.
